Places to see within two hours or so

La Vendée coast: La Rochelle with its Tour de la Chaine and Tour St-Nicholas which protects the entrance of the old port.
The town's historic centre is filled with cobbled streets and merchants houses. And visit the many sandy beaches in this area.

 

Paris: catch a TGV train from Tours and spend the day in Paris, see the Eiffel tower, Nôtre Dame, the Louvre, and the Champs Elysées.

 

Limousin: visit the capital Limoges sitting next to the River Vienne, where the famous porcelain is made.
